OUR DOCTRINAL BELIEFS
We have attempted to address some of the most frequently asked questions about our beliefs and teachings on this page. If you have any further questions or would like to ask about something specific, please do not hesitate to contact us. We believe that it is important to be open and transparent about our beliefs and teachings. We want to provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about whether or not FCBC is the right place for you. Reach out any time at firstcentral@firstcentral.church and we will connect.
The Godhead
There is one God who eternally exists in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—equal in divinity yet distinct in role.
The Father
God the Father is infinite in wisdom, power, holiness, justice, and love. He adopts all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ
Jesus is the eternal Son of God—fully God and fully man—who died for our sins, rose again, and now intercedes for us.
Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit convicts of sin, gives new life, and empowers believers to live holy lives.
The Bible
The Bible is God’s inspired Word, without error in its original manuscripts, and the final authority for faith and life.
Creation
God created the universe by His word. We reject the notion that evolution was part of His creative process.
Man
Humans are made in God’s image but have fallen into sin and are spiritually incapable of pleasing God on their own.
Atonement for Sin
Jesus died as a substitute for sinners. By His shed blood, those who believe are made right with God.
Salvation
Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone—not by works.
Assurance
Everyone who trusts in Christ is eternally secure and kept by God’s power.
The Church
The universal Church includes all believers; the local church is a community of baptized believers committed to worship, discipleship, and mission.
Ordinances
We observe two ordinances: baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper. These are symbolic acts of obedience, not means of salvation.
Sanctification
Believers are called to grow in holiness and Christlikeness through the power of God’s Word and Spirit.
Satan
Satan is a real spiritual being, our enemy, who will ultimately be judged and condemned forever.
Last Things
Jesus will return to judge the world and gather His people. His return is the Christian’s hope and motivation for faithful living.
Eternal State
Those in Christ will enjoy God’s presence forever. Those who reject Him will be separated from Him for eternity in hell.
